The FAA has released a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for Sierra Space Corporation's proposal to conduct Dream Chaser spacecraft reentry operations at the Shuttle Landing Facility in Brevard County, Florida, with a contingency reentry site at Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara County, California. The FAA is the lead agency; U.S. Coast Guard, NASA, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Marine Fisheries Service, and National Park Service are cooperating agencies. The EA evaluates two alternatives: the Proposed Action (FAA issues a reentry license to Sierra Space) and No Action (no license issued). Environmental consequences analyzed include air quality, biological resources, coastal resources, noise, hazardous materials, cultural resources, socioeconomics, and water resources.
