Notice of Availability of the Final Environmental Impact Statement and Record of Decision for SpaceX Starship-Super Heavy Vehicle at Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, Florida

The FAA has issued a Notice of Availability for the Final Environmental Impact Statement and Record of Decision for SpaceX Starship-Super Heavy Vehicle operations at Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, Florida. The Final EIS analyzes up to 44 Starship-Super Heavy launches per year, up to 44 Super Heavy landings per year (at LC-39A or on a droneship in the Atlantic Ocean), up to 44 Starship landings per year, and construction of launch and landing infrastructure at and near LC-39A. The Draft EIS was released August 4, 2025, the public comment period closed September 29, 2025, and the Final EIS and ROD are now available on the FAA project website.

Notice of Extension of Public Comment Period on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the SpaceX Starship-Super Heavy Vehicle at Launch Complex 39A, at Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, Florida

This is a 30-day extension of the public comment period for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement covering SpaceX Starship-Super Heavy Vehicle operations at Launch Complex 39A, Kennedy Space Center, Merritt Island, Florida. The FAA is the lead agency under NEPA. The underlying Draft EIS analyzes up to 44 Starship-Super Heavy launches per year, up to 44 Super Heavy booster landings per year, up to 44 Starship landings per year across multiple landing modes and ocean recovery zones, and construction of associated launch and landing infrastructure at and near LC-39A. Substantive impact analysis is in the Draft EIS, not this notice. Comments are due September 29, 2025 via Docket No. FAA-2024-1395.
