The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued a Notice of Intent to prepare an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the surrender of the exemption for Squam Lake Dam Hydroelectric Project No. 5274, located on the Squam River in Grafton County, New Hampshire. The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, the exemptee, filed the surrender application on June 2, 2025. The generating equipment has not operated since 2002, no ground-disturbing activities are proposed, and the dam will remain in place with no change to ownership or operations. FERC plans to issue the EA by February 9, 2026, followed by a 30-day comment period.12
