The DOE Office of Environmental Management published a Notice of Intent to prepare a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS, DOE/EIS-0402-S1) for soil cleanup at Area IV and the Northern Buffer Zone of the Santa Susana Field Laboratory in eastern Ventura County, California. The SEIS supplements the 2018 Final SSFL Area IV EIS and will evaluate three new soil cleanup alternatives not previously analyzed: Updated LUT Values, Multiple Lines of Evidence, and Resident with Garden Risk-based, plus a No Action alternative. The site hosted nuclear reactor research from the 1950s through 1988, leaving radiological and chemical soil contamination across roughly 472 acres. A 60-day public scoping period runs through February 25, 2025, with two public scoping meetings to be announced.1
