The Forest Service has issued a Notice of Intent to prepare an EIS for the Sweetwater Lake Recreation Management and Development Project on the White River National Forest in northeastern Garfield County, Colorado. The project covers 832 acres, including 488 acres acquired in 2021, and proposes to redesign recreation infrastructure, authorize a 20-year special use permit to Colorado Parks and Wildlife under the Granger-Thye Act, construct campgrounds, cabins, equestrian facilities, a new lodge, and trails, and may require a White River National Forest plan amendment. Scoping comments are due August 5, 2024.
