The Department of the Army signed a Record of Decision on February 29, 2024, completing the NEPA process for the Legislative Environmental Impact Statement Regarding Training and Public Land Withdrawal Extension at Fort Irwin, California. The Army selected a program of training infrastructure and range improvements plus new uses for the Western Training Area, including high-intensity brigade-level maneuvers with unrestricted ammunition use. The ROD also commits the Army to request that Congress renew withdrawal of 110,000 acres of Fort Irwin public land for military purposes. With adopted mitigations, the Army found no significant adverse environmental effects from any considered alternative.12
