NOAA's Office for Coastal Management is preparing a supplemental Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) for its Coral Reef Conservation Program (CRCP), which funds and conducts coral reef conservation and restoration activities across Florida, Hawai'i, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa. The original Final PEIS was published in July 2020, but advances in science and changes in restoration methods and circumstances have prompted the need for a supplemental document. The supplemental PEIS will analyze four program-level alternatives and assess new and expanded activities including enlarged coral collection, expanded ex-situ nurseries, larger-scale restoration using selectively bred corals, ecosystem interventions such as herbivore releases, and in-situ mangrove restoration. A public scoping comment period runs from May 19 to June 18, 2026.123
