FHWA and INDOT have issued a Notice of Intent to prepare a Tier 2 Environmental Impact Statement for Section 2 of the Mid-States Corridor, a proposed new arterial road of approximately 23 miles connecting Interstate 64 at Dale to State Road 56 at Haysville in Dubois County, Indiana. The Tier 1 FEIS and Record of Decision, completed in September 2023, selected Refined Preferred Alternative P and divided it into five Sections of Independent Utility. This Tier 2 study builds on that decision, with INDOT developing 12 preliminary build alternatives, from which Alternatives 2B and 3B were screened forward into the Draft EIS. Expected impacts include right-of-way acquisition of 1,462 to 1,596 acres, conversion of 869 to 935 acres of agricultural land, wetland impacts of 55 to 90 acres, and 41 to 82 building relocations. A Draft EIS is anticipated in fall 2026, with a combined FEIS and Record of Decision targeted for summer 2027.1
