The NRC issued Subsequent Renewed Facility Operating License No. NPF-12 to Dominion Energy South Carolina, Inc. for Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station, Unit 1, a pressurized water reactor near Jenkinsville, South Carolina, on June 30, 2025. The license authorizes operation at up to 2,900 MWt for an additional 20-year period beyond the previously renewed term. The NRC also issued a Record of Decision supported by a final supplemental environmental impact statement (NUREG-1437, Supplement 15, Second Renewal, May 2025), which concluded that adverse environmental impacts are not so great that preserving the SLR option for energy planning decisionmakers would be unreasonable.

The NRC has issued a final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (NUREG-1437, Supplement 15, Second Renewal) for the subsequent license renewal of Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station, Unit 1, located in Fairfield County, South Carolina. The applicant, Dominion Energy South Carolina, Inc., seeks to operate the plant for an additional 20 years beyond its current renewed operating license. The NRC evaluated the proposed action against a no-action alternative and reasonable replacement power alternatives, and concluded that the adverse environmental impacts of subsequent license renewal are not so great that preserving the option for energy-planning decision-makers would be unreasonable. This notice announces the final SEIS availability as of May 8, 2025.
