The NRC issued an Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for a request by Waste Control Specialists LLC (WCS) to extend possession of transuranic waste originating from Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) at the WCS Site in Andrews County, Texas, through December 31, 2026, without an NRC license. The action modifies Condition 9.B.4 of a 2023 NRC Order that exempted WCS from 10 CFR Part 70 licensing requirements for special nuclear material. The NRC found no anticipated changes in radiation hazards to workers or the environment, no changes to effluent releases or radiological doses to the public, and no need to prepare a full EIS.12
