The Bureau of Land Management announces availability of the Draft Supplemental EIS for the Bakersfield Field Office Oil and Gas Leasing and Development in California. The planning area covers approximately 400,000 acres of public land and 1.2 million acres of Federal mineral estate across eight California counties. The Supplemental EIS responds to a 2022 federal court settlement agreement and analyzes environmental effects of oil and gas leasing, including hydraulic fracturing, under five alternatives. The draft supplemental analysis found no notable increase in total impacts beyond those identified in prior EIS documents and proposes no amendment to the 2014 RMP. Comments are due 45 days after EPA publishes its Notice of Availability.123
