The Nuclear Regulatory Commission published a Notice of Intent to prepare an EIS for Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC's Early Site Permit application for the Belews Creek, NC site in Stokes and Forsyth Counties, North Carolina. DEC submitted the ESP application on December 30, 2025, seeking approval of the site for future construction of multiple nuclear reactors using a plant parameter envelope approach, with no reactor technology yet selected. The NRC is the lead federal agency; the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is a cooperating agency. A 30-day public scoping period runs through June 8, 2026. The EIS will evaluate construction, operation, and decommissioning impacts and alternatives.123
