Notice of Study Termination and Withdrawal of Notice of Intent To Prepare an Environmental Impact Statement for the Collier County Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study, Collier County, Florida

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is terminating the Collier County Coastal Storm Risk Management (CSRM) Feasibility Study and withdrawing its Notice of Intent (NOI) to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The study was initiated to investigate feasibility of addressing storm and flood risks to populations, property, infrastructure, and ecosystems along coastlines in Collier County, Florida. Alternatives were formulated in 2023, but the time and cost required for data collection and complex modeling proved beyond available federal funding. USACE determined that current federal funding was insufficient to complete the analysis, and the study is therefore terminated. The original NOI, published July 9, 2024 (89 FR 56348), is withdrawn as of May 1, 2026.

Notice of Intent To Prepare a Draft Feasibility Report and Environmental Impact Statement for the Collier County Coastal Storm Risk Management Project, Collier County, Florida

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has issued a Notice of Intent to prepare an Integrated Feasibility Report and Environmental Impact Statement for the Collier County Coastal Storm Risk Management Project in Collier County, Florida. The study, authorized under the Water Resources Development Act of 2007, will evaluate the feasibility of reducing hurricane and storm surge risks to populations, property, infrastructure, and ecosystems along four planning areas: North County Beaches, Naples, Goodland, and Marco Island. Alternatives under consideration include no action, beach nourishment, mangrove restoration, living shorelines, building elevations, and flood-proofing. Cooperating agencies are EPA, BOEM, and NOAA. Scoping comments are due August 8, 2024, with a Draft EIS expected November 2024.
