The Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued an Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact for the subsequent license renewal of Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2, located in Toombs and Appling Counties, Georgia, on the Altamaha River. Southern Nuclear Operating Company applied on May 15, 2025, to extend operation of both boiling-water reactor units for an additional 20 years beyond their current license expiration dates of August 6, 2034, and June 13, 2038, respectively. The NRC found no significant effect on the human environment, granted an exemption from regulations that would otherwise require a full EIS, and issued a FONSI rather than proceeding to an EIS.123
