The Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued an Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact for an exemption request from Louisiana Energy Services, LLC (dba Urenco USA) to use 30B cylinders within certified DN30 transportation packages (CoC No. 9362) for domestic transport of uranium hexafluoride enriched to greater than 5 but less than 10 weight percent U-235, exceeding the current 5 wt. percent limit. The exemption is limited to approximately 40 to 50 cylinders in 2026 to 2027 for shipment to a single customer. NRC staff concluded, based on dose rate and criticality analyses, that radiological and non-radiological impacts are bounded by prior analysis in NUREG-0170 and no significant environmental impact results.1234
