The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued a draft EIS for public comment on Global Laser Enrichment, LLC's application to construct and operate the Paducah Laser Enrichment Facility, a uranium enrichment facility on a 322-acre greenfield site in McCracken County, Kentucky, approximately 5 miles west of Paducah. The facility would use laser-based isotope separation technology to re-enrich depleted uranium hexafluoride tails to natural levels and enrich natural-grade UF6 up to 8 percent U-235 by weight, operating for up to 40 years. The NRC staff's preliminary recommendation is to issue the license. Two alternatives are evaluated: the proposed action and no-action. Comments are due May 11, 2026.1234
