The Nuclear Regulatory Commission published a Notice of Intent on March 20, 2026, to prepare an EIS for Fermi America LLC's Combined License application to construct and operate four AP1000 advanced passive pressurized-water reactors (Project Matador Nuclear Units 1-4) in Carson County, Texas, adjacent to the Department of Energy's Pantex Plant. The campus is planned to include up to 30 million square feet of hyperscale computing space and approximately 11 GW of total energy generation capacity, with the four reactors providing 4 GW of carbon-free baseload power for on-site data center operations. The NRC opened a 30-day public scoping period closing April 20, 2026, and will supervise an applicant-prepared draft EIS under a NEPA pilot program. Cooperating agencies have not yet been identified.12345
