The Bureau of Land Management Arizona State Director issued a Notice of Intent to amend the Sonoran Desert National Monument Resource Management Plan and prepare an associated Environmental Assessment concerning recreational target shooting availability across the monument's approximately 486,400 acres in Maricopa and Pinal counties, Arizona. The amendment responds to Executive Order 14313, which directs federal land managers to expand public land access for recreation, hunting, and fishing. Under the current 2024 RMP amendment, dispersed recreational shooting is allowed on roughly 5,295 acres and prohibited on approximately 480,496 acres. A 30-day public scoping period closes March 30, 2026.1234
